Our surgeons are talented, board certified experts in their fields. Active members of the community, they are dedicated to staying abreast of the latest medical advancements and surgical techniques so they can best serve the Onslow area. In addition to technical knowhow, they also use a personalized, patient-centered approach so our patients and their families feel more at ease on their way to the quickest recovery possible.
Timothy Patselas, MD, is a graduate of the University of Virginia and received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School. He completed his general surgery residency at East Carolina University and became Board Certified in General Surgery in 1995. He served as Assistant Professor of Surgery at East Carolina University from 1994-1998 in the Division of Trauma and Critical Care and joined Onslow Surgical Clinic in 1998.
Dr. Patselas is a diversified general surgeon with particular interests in breast, skin and soft tissue surgery, chronic wound management and thyroid surgery. He also performs minimally invasive surgery. In addition, he leads the Trauma and Wound Care initiatives at Onslow Memorial Hospital.
He is very active in physician leadership in the community, currently serving as the Department of Surgery Chairman, and a member of the Steering Committee for Strategic Planning, and the Patient and Family Centered Care Committee. He is passionate about expanding the scope of and access to clinical services in Eastern North Carolina.
He is married to Paula Patselas, a professional nurse and homemaker, has three young adult-children, and is active in swimming, boating, mechanical repairs, and the Orthodox faith.
Lennox Williams, MD, is a graduate of the University of The West Indies. He completed his surgical residency at the Jewish Hospital and Medical Center at Brooklyn, followed by a vascular fellowship at Maimonides Medical Center in New York City. He was in private practice in New York from 1987 to 1994, at which time he moved his family to North Carolina to join the Onslow Surgical Clinic.
Dr. Williams’ special area of expertise is peripheral vascular surgery. This includes vascular access for dialysis patients, and minimally invasive varicose vein surgery. The treatment of “spider veins” is performed in the office.
He is the director of the non-invasive vascular laboratory at Onslow Memorial Hospital, and serves in a number of committees at the hospital.
He regularly attends conferences and seminars in General and Vascular Surgery in order to keep abreast of advances in his field.
In his spare time Dr. Williams relaxes by reading, gardening, cycling and running. He has a keen interest in Economics, particularly as it relates to the changing environment in medicine. Dr. Williams and his wife have two daughters and one son.
Travis Lawson Safley, MD, is a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He completed his surgical residency at West Virginia University, Charleston Division where he also served as Chief Surgical Resident. Dr. Safley is currently a member of the American Medical Association and Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and is an Associate Fellow with the American College of Surgeons. He has been working in the field for over 10 years and specializes in laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
Prior to joining the Onslow Memorial Hospital team, Dr. Safley served hospitals in a variety of leadership roles—from Vice-Chair and Trauma Representative for the Critical Care Committee to Medical Staff Treasurer. He also worked with the Jackson Free Clinic for the Homeless, where he led teams of medical students to provide healthcare assistance to the homeless population in Jacksonville, Mississippi.
Gary Belzberg, MD is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and completed his residency at Kern Medical Center/UC San Diego. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Medical Association, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Before relocating to North Carolina, Dr. Belzberg was a partner at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center/South Bay and a clinical instructor of surgery at the Harbor/UCLA Medical Center, both in Torrance, California. He was the Kaiser Permanente Physician of the Year in 2005, a two-time recipient of the Robert J. Nejdl Award for Clinical Instruction and five-time “Clinical Instructor of the Year.” Dr. Belzberg is a board-certified general surgeon with nearly 30 years of experience, who specializes in gastrointestinal surgery.
Ashley Bacheller, PA-C, is a graduate of Ohio University and attended Eastern Virginia Medical School where she participated in their post-graduate program to become a surgical assistant. She graduated as a Certified Surgical Assistant in 2011 and worked in Virginia Beach, VA for several years before returning to Eastern Virginia Medical School’s Physician Assistant Program. She graduated with her masters in 2016 as a Certified Physician Assistant and joined Onslow Surgical Clinic several months later.
In her free time, Ashley participates in many of the free clinics Onslow Memorial Hospital offers to the community and enjoys spending time with her husband, Stephen, and their two dogs.
